Alcohol’s Red Face Linked to Cancer Risk

Wednesday, 25 Mar 2009

Alcohol's red face has been linked to esophageal cancer.

Jacksonville – Alcohol’s red face has been linked to esophageal cancer.

It has been found that this flushing after drinking alcohol puts people at higher risk than those who do not have the flushing affect after alcohol consumption.

According to researchers, alcohol’s red face being linked to cancer, is not well-known to doctors and health care practitioners. This is considered unfortunate due to the fact that esophageal cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer that people face.

People who experience alcohol’s red face only need to drink moderately to be at risk.

People of East Asian descent have a very high risk of cancer if they experience the red face of alcohol.

They have found that the link between alcohol and cancer is the lack of an enzyme called ALDH2 that contributes to metabolizing alcohol.

It has bee estimated that up to 8 percent of the world’s population experiences the enzyme deficiency that causes alcohol’s red face.
