Can Walnuts Reduce The Risk Of Breast Cancer?
Jacksonville - Eating walnuts may help in reducing the risk of women developing breast cancer, according to researchers.
In previous studies, walnuts have been known to reduce the risk of developing bad cholesterol, now in a recent study they have been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
The thought is to the reasoning behind walnuts help with the risk of developing bad cholesterol is because nuts are rich in certain compounds that reduce the hardening of the arteries and keep them flexible
The study was done on mice who were fed a daily diet of walnuts. The results showed there was a lower incident of the mice developing tumors. Researchers are suggesting that the same result can be of humans.
Walnuts consist of various nutrients such as antioxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, and phytosterols, all of which are good nutrients to consume.
According to one of the researchers at Marshall University, Dr Elaine Hardman stated earlier that Walnuts contribute to healthy diets that may reduce the risk of breast cancer.
“Walnuts are better than cookies, french fries or potato chips when you need a snack. We know that a healthy diet overall prevents all manner of chronic diseases.
“It is clear that walnuts contribute to a healthy diet that can reduce breast cancer.”
More research studies will need to be conducted before a for sure link is made between walnuts and its health benefits, but this study sure is encouraging.
The researchers presented this study at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting.
According to the CDC, aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in the United States. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women.
