Farrah Fawcett Still Battling Anal Cancer: Update

Farrah Fawcett Cancer Update

It grieves us all to see long beloved t.v, movie, & stage icons stricken with disease; if it can happen to our beloved idols, it can happen to us.

Farrah Fawcett was diagnosed with a rare anal cancer in September of 2006. She taped her first visit to the oncologist as a means of remembering what was said during the visit.

Farrah was pronounced cancer free in February of 2007, but this joy was short lived when the doctors found a recurrence in May 2007. The cancer had spread to her liver.

Farrah’s battle has been recorded over the last 2 1/2 years and titled “Farrah’s Story,” by her best friend Alana Stewart. Farrah was inspired to do this by fans, & fellow cancer sufferers. She felt it would be a red flag to many people, & would spur them to seek medical checkups; as early detection is still the best way to battle cancer.

Ryan O’Neal, her longtime on again, off again companion since 1982, commented, “I’m scared. Farrah taught me how to live.” Redmond O’Neal, her son with Ryan, is 24 & currently in jail for possession of heroin. The doctors requested that he be released for a few hours to spend time with his mom, perhaps for the last time. She was barely coherent, but when asked if she recognized Redmond, he replied, “I hope so.”

According to Ryan O’Neal, Farrah has “pretty much” discontinued treatment now, but continues the valiant struggle for her life.

  1. Thank you Farrah for your story… It helped me to understand why things happened they way they did when my belated husband battled his bone and skin cancer. One thing that I learned was to spend every moment with your love one and just laugh and smile and to always have faith til the last breath… My husband was told that he would only live 16 to 20 months and i was always so scared and sad during his whole illness. I wish that I could have laughed and smiled like my family and friends did when they came to visit. I didn’t understand that you must have faith til the last breath. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and hope that Redmond doesn’t have any regrets for a mistake that anyone could have made…
