James Sensenbrenner Battling Prostate Cancer
Sensenbrenner Says He Has Early-Stage Prostate Cancer
Tuesday, September 01, 2009 – Another lawmaker diagnosed with prostate cancer within a month of the Senate Banking Chairman who was diagnosed in late July with the disease.
Representative James Sensenbrenner is in the early stages of prostate cancer according to a statement that has been released by Sensenbrenner’s congressional office this morning. The cancer is in its early stages and he will be undergoing radiation treatment to treat it.
The Wisconsin Republican stated that the therapy will have an 85-95 percent of a cure rate and it will have a minimal effect on his work schedule.
Chris Dodd the Senate Banking Chairman had been diagnosed in July with prostate cancer and recalled his recent surgery that he had to remove the cancer. “ Two weeks ago, as I was coming out of surgery, I got a call from Teddy, his unique voice as loud and booming as ever roared between going through prostate cancer surgery and doing town hall meetings, you made the right choice!”
Senator Edward Kennedy passed away last week and his Funeral took place this past Saturday.
A reminder to all to get yearly checkups to catch cancer at the early stage so it doesn’t progress and the chance of survival is minimal.

Luckily for Mr. Sensenbrenner, he has a health insurance policy that will cover treatment of his cancer. There are untold number of men who will not avail themselves to early diagnosis and treatment for this disease as well as other maladies. I wish Mr. Sensenbrenner a good, speedy recovery, and I hope he will work hard to pass a bill that gives health care to all.
Consider the public health benefits of health care for all. Let us say there is an epidemic of swine fly or other highly contagious disease. Do you think the ones who have health insurance (the way it is presently) will be protected from those who do not have access to health care?
Currently, the insurance companies are already interfering with health care delivery. The CEO’s are paid scandalous sums and earn bonuses while they devise ways to deny care.
So, Mr. Sensenbrenner, please recover soon and work for universal health care. Personally, I like the sound of a single payer system.
V Baterina, you already can get health care, just not everyone finds it a priority to get health insurance. I know many people who whine about not being able to afford health insurance (a plan that would cover something serious like prostate cancer would be around 200 month–is what mine is and covers everything.) But they still smoke 2 packs a day. And have money for beer on the weekend. And a new car payment. And a new boat payment. Are you getting the picture? People choose to not have health insurance, because they don’t feel they will get sick. Everyone I know that has bitched about not having insurance started right after they put off the purchase of a plan and got sick, then couldn’t get covered for that illness. If you cannot find a plan that works for you, you are lazy as hell. Ever hear of educating yourself? By the way, in Canada, insurance to cover cancer isn’t free, middle age man in his 40s probably will pay around 350 to 450 per month extra. You just want free health insurance is all. By the way, you can get treated for prostate cancer for lower cost if you go to a public hospital. The care might not be as good, but hey, you still have money left over for Red Bulls and cigarettes.
