UPDATE: Michael Douglas nearing the end of chemotherapy treatment
Danny DeVito paid tribute to his good friend Michael Douglas as he accepted the Golden Icon Award on his behalf at the Zurich Film Festival.
DeVito the event cheerful, telling the audience: “Michael is so strong. He gets better and better with every movie he makes. So that’s why I tell him to work more.”
Douglas, 66, is presently fighting stage 4 throat cancer and is near the end of an intense chemotherapy treatment.
Douglas is reportedly doing much better, with the lump reduced with the chemotherapy and he has been busy plugging his just released movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
His wife Catherine Zeta Jones says, “He’s just finishing up his treatment. He’s holding up very, very well and everyone could not be happier with the progress. He’s doing fine thanks. He’s strong and the doctors are so happy and he’s just about to complete – what anyone who’s gone through it knows – a pretty grueling eight weeks.”
On August 31, 2010 Douglas was a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman when he told the world that he had throat cancer. At that point, he was just starting his eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
A month after his appearance on Letterman, Douglas showed up on the red carpet for the premiere of ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,’ in which he reprises his role as Gordon Gecko.
Douglas thinks the cause of the walnut-sized lump on the base of his tongue is a the result of years of smoking and drinking.
Tongue and throat cancers have a very high rate of cure if caught in the early stages.

People all over the world are suporting Michael Douglas andhis wife during this ordeal. We admire and love him for his frankness in discussing the disease. Many are praying for him and his family. I hope he wins this battle.
Mr Michael Douglas, you are in my familys prayers.
Cant wait to see your new movie, get well and stay strong
wishing you and your family all the best
Thoughts and prayers are with Michael and his family. My wife battled cancer and this pic of Michael reminds me of how she looked. That beautiful girl disappeared quickly before my very eyes in just a couple of months, and only a shadow remained. She died at 18months with a prognosis of 10% for five-year survival, really bad odds. She lived 50% longer than her doctor’s original prognosis despite her metastasis. Michael has a better chance in that 80%, and he may survive longer than five years, he may be lucky. His quality of life will be affected in many ways, but he and Catherine need to remain vigilant and love each other more and more every day. Only love will see them through this. Who knows? God may space Michael and he may get to live 10 yrs. That would be beautiful. As far as all the idiotic comments about the difference in their age and why they got together, God will get those commentators. Michael and Catherine radiate love and affection for each other, and all the comments to the contrary are for the rags to sell copies. Period.
