Michael Douglas’ battle with throat cancer not over yet
Academy Award winner Michael Douglas, 66, has been fighting throat cancer since a stage four tumor was discovered in August. He has just wrapped up eight weeks of chemotherapy treatments, but Douglas still isn’t out of the woods.
In Berlin to promote Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone said at a press conference that Michael Douglas had to back out of the planned European media blitz due to the “precarious” state of his health.
Stone went on to say that Douglas is still “suffering” as he continues to battle throat cancer, and opted to stay in the U.S. to focus on his health.
Douglas has undergone a grueling eight week chemotherapy treatment and radiation therapy to treat the cancer, but finished his treatment last week, according to his New York-based publicist Allen Burry.
Douglas made a short appearance at the New York premiere of his and Stone’s latest film, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, last month (Sep10), however Douglas’ ailing health has forced him to skip the rest of the promotional tour.
“You can’t have eight weeks of treatment and go on a European tour,” Burry told amNewYork. “The doctors are very happy … he’s perfectly fine.”
Douglas’ doctors have given have given him an 80% chance of beating the throat cancer and are reportedly pleased with the way he was responding to treatment.
