According to researchers, a young athlete dies every three days from an undetected cardiovascular disorder.

This can be changed though, as it has been noted by Italian researchers that simple screenings can greatly reduce the number.

Researchers used ECG testing on over 30,000 athletes.

What they found was that 1.2% of the athletes reported having abnormal test results, while 4.9% had abnormal results while exercising.

What this shows is that the simple ECG screening can help detect athletes who may be at risk of a cardiovascular event while competing in their sport.

The study has been published in the online journal, British Medical Journal.
