FDA Says Dermal fillers for wrinkles Could Cause Serious Problems

New York – The FDA has announced that it plans to review the labeling of certain wrinkle-filler products, also known as dermal fillers, because it has received 930 reports of serious problems associated with the products during the past 6 years.
Problems include rare but life-threatening events such as severe allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock, and more commonly facial palsy and disfigurement. Many reports involved minor swelling.
While the FDA would not name the products cited in the reports, commonly used dermal fillers include Restylane and Perlane from Medicis, Bioform Medical’s Radiesse, and Allergan Inc’s Juvederm.
According to dermanetwork.org, Dermal fillers are: “being used more and more to help reverse the changes associated with aging. Because the goal is to return the dermis to its original youthful state, dermal fillers can give a more natural appearance than surgical face lifts. Dermal fillers are being used to reduce or eliminate wrinkles, raise scar depressions, enhance lips, and replace soft-tissue volume loss.”
About 1.36 million women and 84,000 men received wrinkle- fillers last year, Bloomberg reported.

Everyone ages, stop being so vain and get over it. Face lifts or injections cannot hide someone’s age and anyone who thinks that a plastic face compensates for a buzzard’s neck, baggy arms, sagging nether regions, and an elderly voice, is only fooling themself.
Eat a sensible diet, exercise as appropriate for your age and fitness level, and leave the self-absorption of the vain where it belongs, in Hollywood.
I have never heard of one adverse reaction from any of the many plastic surgeons and dermatologists I know. Therefore, I have to believe that the adverse reactions to the dermal fillers noted are the result of doctors, PAs, or nurses who were not properly trained in injection techniques or those who did not perform a thorough medical history on the patients they treated.
For those who consider aesthetic procedures “vain” – from what I see happening to/in our society, there are far more people who desperately need to correct their behavior and address the mental issues that account for it than there are people who should be castigated for seeking ways to improve their outward appearance.
Everyone should just sleep more
It’s sad when something undesirable happens with something that’s supposed to make you more beautiful. Additionally it’s even more unfortunate that there are unscrupulous folks out there taking advantage of our vanity, and causing such pain, anguish, and disfigurement by injecting unapproved and damaging substances.
