Nestle Recalls Lean Cuisine Chicken Dinners

Seattle - The Nestle Prepared Foods Company has issued a huge nationwide recall of the Lean Cuisine frozen chicken dinners. Over 900,000 of the chicken meals are being recalled. This is the largest recall the company has ever had. Only three types of frozen chicken dinners are being recalled.
The company issued a recall because several customers have found small pieces of hard plastics in the meals. Currently there are no details of how the hard plastic pieces were accidentally mixed into the meals.
The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The problem was identified by the USDA as a “Class 1” health hazard. A “Class 1” health hazard means that there is a good possibility that the use of the product will cause serious, harmful health consequences or death. So far, Nestle has received one report of a person receiving an injury from one of the recalled dinners.
The following Lean Cuisine dinners were affected by the recall:
• 9.5 ounce box of Lean Cuisine Cafe Classics Pesto Chicken with Bow Tie Pasta with a use-by date of May 2010 and production code 8280595912.
• 10.5 ounce box of Lean Cuisine Spa Cuisine Chicken Mediterranean with a use-by date of Sept 2010 and production code 8231595912 or 8241595912. A use-by date of Oct 2010 with production code 8263595912, 8269595911, or 8274595912. And also a use-by date of Nov 2010 and production code 8291595912 or 8301595912.
• 12.5 ounce box of Lean Cuisine Dinnertime Selects Chicken Tuscan with a use-by date of Sept 2009 and a production code of 8234595911. A use-by date of Oct 2009 and production code 8269595912 or 8253595911. And also a use-by of Nov 2009 and production code 8296595911 or 8292595911.
All the packages have USDA mark of inspection with the establishment number “EST-9018”. The recalled packages of the Lean Cuisine dinners were distributed to retail stores nationwide between August 18 and October 27.
Customers that still have the products in their freeze should throw them away. If you have found plastic in your frozen dinner or have questions about the recalled products you can call Nestle’s Consumer Services center at 1-800-227-6188.

“Small pieces of plastic?” Maybe its melamine.
My thoughts exactly Hilary. Where are these products manufactured? Incidents like this should make becoming a vegetarian and eating locally even more attractive to those who haven’t previously considered such a course of action.
