Seattle – A new anti fat pill may help people avoid gaining too much weight. Scientists have found a new chemical that is found naturally in our bodies that helps to block hunger and weight gain. This is a big discovery because obesity is becoming a huge problem in the United States of America.

They observed rats and mice. This is because rats, mice, and humans all make this chemical after they eat a meal that is fattening. When the rats and mice were given an extra dose of the chemical, they ate less food and even lost weight. The rats and mice had no ill side effects from taking this extra dose of the chemical.
Scientists will continue testing this chemical on animals and if it continues to have the same results then the scientists will begin testing the chemical on humans.

Gerald Shulman who is a molecular biologist at Yale University discovered this chemical’s new role with his team. The chemical or molecule is called N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine.

Researchers have found that levels of fatty acids actually fall when people eat a lot of greasy foods. They can eat a lot of food because as they eat the greasy foods, they become hungrier.

Fatty acids in food get converted to N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine in your gut before it heads to your bloodstream. Then, the chemical travels very fast into the brain’s appetite center. The brain’s appetite center is located in the hypothalamus, and it shuts down the neurons that signal hunger.

This discovery explains why the mice and rats that had been injected with levels of N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine felt and acted like they were stuffed and not hungry. They did not show any interest in eating food, and the animals that were usually athletic became exhausted.

After taking N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine for five days, rats ate thirty percent less food and lost twenty five percent of their body weight. The rodents who did not get N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine did gain a little weight. The rodents who participated in the clinical trial did not suffer any permanent behavioral changes.
Problems controlling the production of the chemical may be the reason why people suffer from obesity and diabetes. After the mice gorged on their meals for more than one month, N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine levels in their blood no longer went up and down. Extra N-acylphosphatidylethanolamine still helped to suppress the rodents’ appetites.

This chemical could help to lessen the number of obese people that are in the world. Obesity has become a huge epidemic in the United States. Many people have problems losing weight and suffer health complications due to their weight. It can be hard for people to suppress their hunger and appetite. This chemical could give obese and overweight people hope. However, this chemical still needs to be tested further to make sure that using it will not cause any harmful side effects to human. Hopefully, this chemical will be available in the future to help lower the obesity rate
