Restaurants to Display Food Calorie Counts

Many restaurants across Britain are being urged to display food calorie counts for their customers.

London – Many restaurants across Britain are being urged to display food calorie counts for their customers.

The calorie counts would be listed on the menus or display boards of both fast food and full service restaurants.

According to The Guardian, men in Britain now get a quarter of their food energy intake outside the home.

The extra ingredients and sauces used in these restaurants leave the diner uninformed as to the number of calories they are actually consuming. Different types of breads and cheeses also contain different amounts of calories.

Food labels found on the food on grocery store shelves have proven to have a large impact on the choices made when purchasing these food items to be consumed while dining in. When the restaurants display food calorie counts on their menus, the consumer is able to make an informed choice for their meal.

Sometimes a diner may choose a food item of higher calorie count because of the price. At other times a higher calorie food item may be chosen purely for the flavor of a certain food.

An informed consumer is more likely to make a healthier choice when dining out.
