MRSA Infection On The Rise Among Children of America

Seattle – News that rocked all the American parents was the report that more children in America are now threatened by resistant strains of bacteria that are causing serious head and neck infections.
The organism that is marked as culprit and is causing this infection is Staph aureus. This resistant bacteria is known as MRSA, which stands for methicillin resistant Staph aureus.
It is mentioned that this infection is spreading beyond of what was thought to be a spread in a traditional way from hospitals and now is seen to spread very rapidly into the communities.
A lot of ENT physicians are now expressing their concern that they are seeing a lot of cases where children are suffering from MRSA resistant ENT infections and the numbers are just gradually rising.
The researchers have collected the data from the year 2001 to 2006 and they have found that there were more than 300 hospitals that reported cases of bacteria resistant to antibiotic in children. These statistics were collected from hospitals throughout the country.
In that study there were about 21,000 cases reported of children having infections and out of them 22% had MRSA infection. That study also showed that the rate of MRSA infection had doubled from about 12 to 28 percent with children having head and neck infections.
