Seattle – Living around the corner from your favorite burger joint is bad for your health.

According to a new study from the University of Michigan, the number of people having strokes increases with the proximity of how many fast food restaurants are in the neighborhood.

Focusing on a region in a Texas with a high density of fast food restaurants, researchers found a 13 percent greater risk of stroke.

For each additional fast food restaurant in a particual area, the risk increases by 1 percent.

However, the researchers said the results did not prove that fast-food restaurants were causing strokes.

Study leader Professor Lewis Morgenstern, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, said: “The data shows a true association.

“What we don’t know is whether fast food actually increased the risk because of its contents, or whether fast-food restaurants are a marker of unhealthy neighborhoods.”

Results were presented Thursday at the American Stroke Association’s annual conference, in San Diego.

  1. No relation what so ever…. Wait? Last I checked people in Africa, India and Pakistan don’t have guts like the gringos I was at Disney world. If you don’t think obesity and fast food correlate, look at transport drivers vs. vegans or office workers vs. people that indulge in regular fitness. In other countries, the only people that have guts like Americans are the kings and aristocracy.
One day the dense people in our world will smarten up and not have ignorance to blame for poor habits. Ultimately don’t blame the dunce cap wearing gluttons that get no nutritional content out of their meals. Blame the food chains and independent restraints for serving crap, or the general public for not trying anything new and forcing restraints to carry static menus.
