Grant for Cancer research given to University of Rochester

New York – Cancer is considered as number one killer disease in the country. There are many studies and researches being conducted to find the cure for this disease, but none of the research or available medications have helped to the effect required. Many scientists are also working to find the drugs which can prevent the occurrence of Cancer. Colon cancer is such one of the deadly disease and is considered to be third most common cancer in United States. Each year around 130,000 people are diagnosed of Colon cancer in United States alone.

In order to promote research and to give benefits to the patients suffering from colon cancer, the American Cancer Society has awarded a grant to University of Rochester. Total approved grant for this research would be $ 840,000. Officials have informed that the basic aim of research would be to study how specific bacteria’s promote growth in colon cancer. Dr. Jun Sun of Wilmot Cancer centre at University of Rochester would be the primary investigator for the research. Dr. Sun would focus on bacteria in our digestive system which leads towards malignant growth of cancer.

American Cancer Society is actively involved in spreading the knowledge of cancer and to educate people who are suffering from this fatal disease. Amount for this grant was raised from the Relay for Life Program campaign where cancer awareness was spread throughout the nation. It is believed that Relay for Life was the largest signature activity in its kind. It was also most successful national fundraiser campaign. Many such events are planned and are being conducted throughout the country to raise money and to support people suffering from cancer.

This initiative from American Cancer Society of awarding grant is appreciated by the people and all are looking forward for successful results from this research.
