California State Legislature says BPA is probably safe
On Tuesday, the California State Legislature in a very close vote, failed to pass a bill that would have stopped the use of the plastics chemical, bisphenol A (BPA), a synthetic estrogen, from baby bottles, sippy cups and infant formula cans sold in California.
In July the bill passed the State Assembly and the Senate a month earlier, yet needed to be authorized by the Senate again. California would have joined Canada, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, Wisconsin and Washington state and a few other cities and counties in the U.S. that, with key bi-partisan support, have enacted bans on BPA in baby bottles and other feeding products for children.
There have been more than 220 peer-reviewed studies have linked BPA to a host of health problems BPA is a chemical is used to make polycarbonate plastic and is also found in epoxy resins used to line cans to prevent corrosion. Acting as an anti-androgen, BPA effects sexual growth and processes, particularly in developing fetuses, infants, and children. Anti-androgens block hormone activity. BPA has also been associated with prostate cancer and infertility.
The state of California uses over 19 billion plastic bags annually that contain BPA, with a large portion of that ending up in landfills or contaminating our oceans.

It’s nice to see that a state like CA is not following the scare tactics. I wish someone explained to Feinstein that BPA is safe. More & more FDA studies reveal that bisphenol A can be metabolized by the infants. Still Feinstein wants to introduce an amendment to ban BPA to the Food Safety Bill. I am a Democrat too, but I think Feinstein needs to let go off BPA politically. She is obstructing an important piece of legislation.
