North America infested with vampires aka bedbugs

Saturday, 04 Sep 2010

Across North America, the bedbug infestation is now at epidemic proportions, taking over not only private homes and hotels but theaters and high-end offices.

The National Pest Management Association in the U.S., reports that there has been a 71% growth in bedbug reports since 2001. They also suggests the world is on the verge of a bedbug pandemic

The bed bug epidemic is so bad that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warned this month against the indoor use of chemicals that are designed to be used outside only. The agency also warned of an increase in pest control companies and others making “unrealistic promises of effectiveness or low cost.”

Health officials state that if you do not have bedbugs now, there’s a good chance you will one day. However, you can lower your chances with simple steps such as understanding what a bedbug looks like.

Bedbugs are most commonly found in furniture or bedding, and when they invade a room they will get into nooks and crannies like the space between the baseboard trim and the wall, making them hard to find and kill.

Mostly dormant for the past 40 years, bedbugs have made a inexplicable, yet dramatic, return all across the nation since the late 1990s. Even the long time go to chemical, DDT, would not stand a change if brought back now since bedbugs long ago became resistant to it on a large scale. Although they do not transmit disease, their bites can cause itching, lead to infections and, in rare cases, cause anaphylactic shock.

Health experts says that specially trained dogs are traditionally the best tool in searching out bedbugs, given their high sense of smell.north-america-infested-vampires-bedbugs
