Michael Douglas drops to 140lbs from throat cancer treatment: Placed on high calorie diet
Michael Douglas, who has reportedly dropped to 140 pounds following the chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment for throat cancer, has been placed on a high calorie diet of creamy pasta, organic liver and and chicken soup.
A source close to Douglas said: “He needs to bulk up. He’s so fragile that doctors are worried he won’t be strong enough to recover from treatment which has left him weak”.
Michael Douglas’ representative have denied new reports suggesting the cancer-stricken actor was recently rushed to hospital after collapsing at his New York home. Tabloids had picked up the story and the rumors have been flying ever since.
A source. who apparently witnessed the event said: “He quickly came to his senses, but knew he needed to get himself checked out. He had a driver take him to Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre to see his doctor.
“It was a frightening moment, and he didn’t want to worry Catherine… After being examined, Michael was allowed to return home.”
Throat cancer:
Throat cancer refers to cancerous tumors that develop in your throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx) or tonsils.
Risk factors for developing throat cancer may include:
* Smoking tobacco
* Heavy alcohol use
* A diet low in fruits and vegetables
* Drinking maté, a stimulant drink common in South America
* Chewing betel quid, a stimulant commonly used in parts of Asia
* Being infected with human papillomavirus (HPV)
