Eddie Montgomery fighting prostate cancer
Country music singer Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry has announced he is battling prostate cancer.
Montgomery, 47, who lives near Perryville in Boyle County will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in December.
“Yes, rumors have started. And the truth is I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer,” Montgomery writes. “I will be undergoing surgery to remove the cancerous tumor in December. I will be back in January ready to rock for all the fans! Please keep my family and I in your prayers.”
Montgomery and fellow Kentucky native Troy Gentry make up the country music group, Montgomery-Gentry.
The pair, who became members of the Grand Ole Opry in 2009, is currently on tour in Canada. Montgomery Gentry’s last tour date of 2010, according to their website, is Dec. 4 in Charlotte.
Prostate cancer:
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It typically grows slow and, if caught in it’s early stages, can often be cured or managed successfully.
The estimated lifetime risk of being diagnosed with the disease is 17.6% for whites and 20.6% for African Americans. The lifetime risk of death from prostate cancer similarly is 2.8% and 4.7% respectively.
The symptoms of prostate can include any of the following:
Difficulty passing urine
Passing urine more frequently than usual, especially at night
Pain when passing urine
Blood in the urine
