New Studies Show Circumcision May Reduce Risk of STD’s

Jacksonville – The benefits of being circumcised may be more numerous than previously thought.
Recent studies show circumcision reduces the risk of two sexually transmitted diseases, herpes simplex virus Type 2 and human papillomavirus (HPV).
Circumcised men have a 25% lower risk of contracting herpes and have a 35% lower risk of HPV.
This finding is not the first to show circumcision results in health benefits, in previous studies it was proved that circumcision can reduce the risk of penile cancer and can also reduce the risk of HIV infection.
Experts are now emphasizing the need to provide proper information to parents faced with the decision to follow through with the procedure, stressing the importance of explaining the long-term health benefits.
The American Academy of Pediatrics are reviewing the studies on circumcision to see if there is evidence to start recommending routine neonatal circumcision.
Circumcision may be an early preventive way to help guard against sexually transmitted diseases.
