Need For Health Care Reform Painfully Obvious

Sunday, 19 Apr 2009

jacksonville - It is obvious that there is a call for immediate repair of the health care system in the Untied States. The media is inundated with stories daily regarding the sorry state of the American Healthcare System. It is painfully obvious that the heath care system in place today is broken and needs immediate attention. Nearly 40 million Americans go with out any form of insurance. The majority of the uninsured being the most vulnerable in our society, the young, the elderly and the special needs members of the population.
Is there a solution? Of course there is, though it is not an easy one and one that will come with major reforms in the way health care is handled today.

There needs to be more proof in pricing, so to speak. There is no way one aspirin comes at a cost of $7.00 and we all know that tongue depressor didn‘t cost nearly as much. Medical costs need to be reigned in and brought down to a feasible level. Doctor’s need a break on the cost of malpractice insurance and the public needs to become less litigious. The price of doing business for doctors is sky-high, these costs are reflected in the cost of services. It is a vicious circle.

Reform always comes at a cost and the question becomes, where would the funds come from? One possible solution, is to reduce all government position salaries to their states “minimum wage” and make them true public servants. As well as take away all government cars and drivers and extravagant perks. John Q. Public pays his way to work why shouldn’t their representatives? The public could also be offered the same health benefits given to politicians and their families.

A hard look must be taken of this complicated system and changes must be made in order for the Healthcare System of the Untied States to be functioning and healthy. The states can take a lesson from nations such as Germany, Japan and Switzerland, who all have healthcare models that work without breaking the government bank or alienating the neediest of society.
